Deer Creek is laid out around Lake Genesis on the Cumberland Plateau, with lake views and mountain-plateau scenery that travel writers once called one of the area’s best-kept secrets. Rolling fairways and greens give the course a distinct look and feel compared to the tree-lined Fairfield Glade layouts. It’s worth including on any Crossville golf trip where you want visual variety, not just big-name scorecards.
Deer Creek was a premier Crossville course when it opened in 1990, then went through a multi-year closure before being purchased in 2022. The new ownership spent roughly 18 months restoring the course and renovating the clubhouse before reopening. If you haven’t played Deer Creek since the old days, expect updated facilities and a course that’s back on many locals’ must-play lists.
Absolutely. Deer Creek is a local favorite that suits foursomes and larger groups. Scoring opportunities keep the round competitive, and Grandy’s makes the post-round easy. Bertram specializes in group bookings and can pre-set tee times at Deer Creek alongside other Crossville and Fairfield Glade courses, with lodging at Country Club Villas or Premium Rentals.
Fairfield Glade courses (Stonehenge, Druid Hills, Heatherhurst Brae & Crag, Dorchester, Lake Tansi) sit inside the gated community and are often stiffer, more tree-lined championship tests. Deer Creek is a public Crossville course with a lakeside feel, softer overall difficulty, and a strong après-golf scene at Grandy’s. Many Bertram groups play both: a Fairfield Glade course one day and Deer Creek the next for a change of pace.
Walk-up green fees at Deer Creek are set by the course and vary by season, time of day (including twilight rates), and whether you walk or ride. See Deer Creek’s current pricing for the latest. Through Bertram, Deer Creek rounds are typically bundled into per-golfer package pricing that includes lodging, greens fees, carts paid in advance, and pre-set tee times. Out-of-town groups get one all-in number instead of piecing together lodging and tee sheets separately.
Yes. Bertram’s Crossville and Fairfield Glade packages include play at the courses of your choice, with no course restrictions. Deer Creek is a popular pick for groups who want a relaxed, scoring-friendly round mixed in with Fairfield Glade courses like Heatherhurst, Dorchester, or Stonehenge, or a Nicklaus round at Bear Trace.
Yes. Deer Creek offers a driving range, putting green, and cart rentals on site. That’s handy if your group wants to loosen up before a tee time or squeeze in some practice between rounds on a multi-day Tennessee golf package.
Yes. Grandy’s Bar and Grill is on site at the clubhouse. It’s a popular 19th-hole stop with a sports-bar feel, plenty of TVs, cold drinks, and food after your round. The clubhouse itself was recently renovated under Deer Creek’s new ownership, making it one of the nicer hangout spots among Crossville-area courses.
Deer Creek isn’t just a “fill-in” round. The layout includes driveable par 4s and gettable par 5s that create real risk/reward decisions: go for birdie or play safe and try to grind out par. Built around Lake Genesis, the setting on the Tennessee mountain plateau gives you scenery and variety without the same pressure as Crossville’s toughest championship tracks.
That’s what a lot of local players say, and it’s a big reason Bertram recommends the course even though bigger names nearby tend to get more attention. Deer Creek’s pure, rolling greens are a standout, especially for golfers who care more about putting surfaces than brand recognition. After the course’s recent reopening and restoration period, conditions have been a major talking point for returning players.
Deer Creek is generally considered more playable than some of the area’s headline courses like Stonehenge, Bear Trace, or Druid Hills, but it still rewards good iron play, especially on those rolling greens. With driveable par 4s and reachable par 5s, it’s a strong pick for groups that want birdie chances and a fun round without a punishing championship test every day.
Deer Creek is at 445 Deer Creek Drive, Crossville, TN, in the Crossville section of the Golf Capital of Tennessee area, not inside the gated Fairfield Glade community. From Bertram’s Fairfield Glade lodging at Country Club Villas, it’s a short drive into Crossville. That makes Deer Creek an easy add for golfers building a Crossville and Fairfield Glade itinerary with a mix of community and public courses.
