Booking Bear Trace directly gets you a single tee time. Booking through Bertram gets you a full trip: lodging near Fairfield Glade, multiple courses (including Bear Trace), pre-set tee times, carts and greens fees handled upfront, and a local support team from quote through check-in. For golfers traveling from out of state (i.e. Nashville, Knoxville, Atlanta, the Midwest) that “one call, one price” model is usually the main reason they use a packager.
Bear Trace is generally open year-round, weather permitting. For package pricing, Bertram offers value season (Nov–Mar), midweek discounts (Sun–Wed nights, year-round), and seasonal in-season/off-season tiers, so groups often save by traveling in shoulder or value months while still getting strong course conditions, especially post-2024 renovation.
Yes, Bear Trace is one of the most heavily played Bear Trace courses in Tennessee and handles group outings well. Bertram specializes in group bookings (from foursomes to 40+ golfers) and can build an itinerary that includes Bear Trace alongside other Crossville-area courses, with lodging sized for your group.
Fairfield Glade courses (Stonehenge, Druid Hills, Heatherhurst, Dorchester, etc.) are inside the gated community and offer a classic mountain-resort feel. Bear Trace is a state park Nicklaus design with a more links-influenced layout, creek carries, and the 2024 renovation. Many Bertram groups play a mix of both — Fairfield Glade courses one day and Bear Trace the next — because the experiences feel different even though they’re close together.
If you book a Bertram golf package, you generally don’t. Bertram handles tee time coordination for your group across all selected courses, including Bear Trace. That’s especially helpful for groups of 4+, where aligning tee sheets at a heavily played Nicklaus course can otherwise take multiple calls and calendar juggling.
Typical Bertram packages bundle lodging (Country Club Villas or Premium Rentals), greens fees, golf carts paid in advance, and pre-arranged tee times. Package pricing is per golfer, all-in, with fees broken out clearly, so groups know the total cost up front. Additional rounds beyond your package can usually be added on request.
Yes. Bertram Crossville and Fairfield Glade packages include play at the courses of your choice with no course restrictions. Bear Trace is one of the most popular picks in the area, and Bertram can pre-set tee times for your group so you’re not juggling reservations course by course.
The par-4 7th hole is Bear Trace’s most famous hole. It features a blind tee shot, a green protected by bunkers, and layered flagstone around the putting surface, making it one of the most photographed and talked-about holes in the Crossville area.
Bear Trace plays to about 6,900+ yards from the back tees with a slope around 135–141, depending on tee selection. Nicklaus designed it with multiple tee boxes and plenty of risk/reward options, so it works for a wide range of handicaps. Elevation changes, creek carries, and well-protected greens (especially on the signature 7th) give better players a real test without making it unplayable for mid-handicap groups.
Yes. Bear Trace underwent a major renovation in 2024, including new tee boxes, fairways, approach areas, and Better Billy bunkers. If you played here years ago, expect updated conditions and a refreshed playing experience.
Bear Trace is at 407 Wild Plum Lane, Crossville, TN, near Cumberland Mountain State Park. It is just south of Fairfield Glade, not inside the community. From Bertram’s Fairfield Glade lodging (Country Club Villas), it’s a short drive (typically around 10–15 minutes), which makes it easy to pair with other Crossville and Fairfield Glade courses on the same trip.
